Lesotho has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the world with an estimated 25-33% of the population infected with the disease.
It is impossible to travel in Lesotho without noticing the effects it has had on the population. Graveyards are full of the gravestones of Lesotho's "missing generation", those born in the late 60's and early 70's. Funerals take place on a weekly basis and fields are left fallow as people are unable to tend them themselves. Child headed households are more and more common and children miss out on their education tending sick family members or their fields.
